He was named the greatest fighter of the 20th century by the Associated Press and ESPN named him the greatest boxer in history. During his career, he encountered a fight that he refused to take part in. He had dreamt before the match that he ended up killing his opponent, Jimmy Doyle, in the ring. So, he decided against the fight.
A priest and a minister talked Robinson back into doing the fight. Just like in his dream, Robinson killed his opponent in the ring. It really impacted him. He was known for his flamboyant lifestyle outside the ring and after he retired from boxing, he tried to become an entertainer. It didn’t pan out and he died in poverty at the age of 67 in 1989.
