Music paid a crucial role in the film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The director, Stanley Kubrick, was very particular about the music. In fact, Alex North had created an entire score of music for the film. Kubrick was very specific on how he wanted his film to be shot, especially the fact that he didn’t want a lot of dialogue in the film. Music was specifically chosen to evoke particular emotions.
However, in post-production Kubrick threw everything of Alex North’s score out the window. He then decided to put only classical music in the film. Kubrick didn’t tell North, though. So, it wasn’t until opening night of the film that North found out all his hard work and music for the film was for nothing. Kubrick didn’t let him know beforehand. That is a major burn. Kubrick managed to make the impression with the film that he was looking for, though.
