The world’s third biggest film industry is in Nigeria!

You’ve heard of Hollywood and Bollywood, but have you heard of Nollywood? In a mere 13 years, the Nigerian film industry has grown from nothing to earning about $200 million a year, enough for it to become the world’s third biggest film industry.

What’s interesting is that the movies made there are really cheap, straight to video movies that are sold on thousand of street stalls in all of Africa.

The industry is beginning to gain notoriety and interest from bigger players. Wesley Snipes, for example, is rumored to be interested in investing in Nollywood. The specialty of Nollywood are horror movies that revolve around witchcraft and demonic possession. Learn more about this industry here.
