The Hoover Dam has enough concrete to build a 16-foot wide highway from San Francisco to New York City!

For those keeping count, that’s a distance of almost 3,000 miles. The Hoover dam is one of the biggest man made structures on Earth. To make it, they used 3,250,000 cubic yards of concrete. That’s enough to build a monument 100 feet square and 2 ½ miles high.

The first concrete for the dam was placed on June 6 1933, and the last on May 29, 1935. In total, the 726.4 feet high dam weighs 6.6 million tons. Learn more facts about the Hoover dam at the source
