The author of The Lord of the Rings was inspired in part because he fought in World War I! Learn his story
The author of The Lord of the Rings is a lovely man by the name of J.R.R. Tolkien, you happened to not only write quite possibly the greatest trilogy of all time, but he fought in one of the most violent wars in human history! Tolkien fought in the battle of Thiepval Ridge as well as the assault on Schwaben Redoubt!
Needless to say, he survived, but he was soon discharged. Unfortunately for Tolkien, he had come down with the disease ‘Trench Fever’ and had become extremely ill. The military had no need for him and sent him back to England, where he would become a professor at Oxford! While at Oxford, he wrote both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy!
