There’s a car race where spectators booby trap the track and often injure racers!
The Baja 1000 is an off-road race that happens ever November in Baja California and it’s part of a Championship Desert Racing series. The race allows various types of vehicle classes to compete in the same course. Motorcycles, buggies, trucks, and even custom vehicles compete.
Part of the allure of this race is that spectators sabotage and booby-trap the course by digging holes, blocking river flow or burying and hiding obstacles. Racers are told to watch out for large crowds because it usually indicates that there are traps there. The traps present a good test of preparedness. You’d think people would use it as an advantage, but it’s customary to radio warn other racers about booby traps they found.
